How to Properly go Thrift Shopping

It’s no secret that I love to buy new clothes. And it’s no secret that new clothes can be expensive. So, whenever you want to refresh your wardrobe without breaking your wallet, thrift!

Thrifting is honestly one of my favorite things to do. I love it more than going to a mall (and THAT is saying something). Why do I love it so much? Because it’s an experience.

Now, thrifting is almost an art form, a muscle, that needs to be exercised in order to better it. You don’t have to go running through the store (I do but that’s because I’m a child in a candy store when it comes to clothing stores 😂😂), but you do need to go to stores and look around.

Go out and find thrift stores near where you live (they may not just be Goodwills) and scope out what is there. Unlike regular stores, don’t just look over everything in a glimpse; look at each item. When at thrift stores, you aren’t looking for the latest fashion trends, you’re actually doing the opposite: look for the unexpected and break fashion norms. Look for something that makes you feel like this.

This jacket I found at my favorite thrift shop in Brooklyn (L Train Vintage). I love this jacket because it is extremely longer than most denim jackets. This and the lighter, worn out look made this stand out to me on the rack. This is definitely an item I cannot get at a regular store and that’s how I knew I had to get this immediately.

This US Army jacket is another item I knew I had to have. Camo has become huge in the past year and seems to stay for a while longer. Camo may be in jackets already, but I have yet to find a store that sells heavy duty Army jackets like this one. I love the oversized look on my in the sleeves and length. I think that helps to let people know I’m actually not a part of the military 😂😂

In the long run, thrifting can be a hit or miss. Make sure that you don’t go into a thrift store with any expectations. Let yourself be drawn to the items that you find. And don’t be discouraged if you don’t find anything. Sometimes stores don’t have a great selection at that moment. When I plan on going shopping at a thrift store, I always have back up stores that are nearby that I can go to if I don’t find anything I like at the first store.

Just make sure that throughout all of this, you are having fun and finding things that you normally wouldn’t see or think you would wear. Thrifting is a great way to expand your wardrobe and style without hurting your wallet!

Now go out and thrift!! 😊😋💕
